hey everyone i am blogging from my new room (or rather space, since i'm sharing a room with someone). we hit waterfront yesterday and bought a HELL LOAD of stuff! which was pretty cheap in USD. it was amazing how we could get all of it back. fortunately zhi quan drove us there in a car (: haven't had the chance to take public transport since i reached, apart from cabbing in NYC. there was *supposed* to be a snow storm but all's good now, just that the snow on the sidewalk's accumulating like crazy. the stationery here's really expensive though, my file cost 2.99 USD hahahahhahahahahha and it's just a file. a lao pok file. but at least it isn't as useless as daryl's clicker WAHAHAHA. textbooks are mindblowingly insane as well, a new one can cost up to $180 USD when it's only S$60-70 dollars in Clementi Bookstore. i spent a grand total of US$79.06 on my development, environment and mathematical econs textbooks so far. they're all secondhand and i can't be too sure of the condition of the books. i haven't gotten my law and labour textbooks yet!! they cost like $98 and $68 USD for used ones on ebay.com ): for my law module i need to subscribe to WSJ (wall street journal) as well!!! that's like $34.76 US!!! seriously waste my money!!! i wish i took game theory though ): it would be A LOT cheaper cos the texts aren't compulsory and it's research based, something that i wanna experience, too bad there wasn't a slot for me when i went for lecture ):
i've been up to a lot of things each day, the most happening of the lot being ice skating downtown and skiing at seven springs, about one and a half hour's drive from the street i'm living in. the pics are all up on facebook (: the saddest part of it all is that when school starts for most of my friends here, they're gonna be MIA ): i really like it here though, and i would understand why people wanna stay. i must say i haven't exactly seen the world yet, but being here is enough to make me wanna stay. and with a generally more sought after degree like engineering and finance you can work here right after graduation (and the pay is really attractive. interns here earn up to $45/hr or $5000 per month in USD). so many of the engineers that i've met here are interning at google and disney/pixar and it makes me feel that i've been missing out a lot being stuck in singapore. there's really a big big world out here and so many scholars i met here are considering breaking their bonds because the options here are incredibly insane. [: i was talking to daryl about it and he is also interested in moving to the United States (obviously coz he's in Cali haha). i would definitely consider it as well, moving here with him and settling down and hopefully not working HAHAHA. well, i'm gonna hope i can secure a place with a good graduate school here. because i really like it so far... well i'll tell you all again when i figure out how good/shit school is.
on another note, here is my room (still a work in progress though)!!! newly spruced up thanks to the help i got from the other singaporeans!!! (: and a malaysian too hahaha.
pretty isn't it? i love it when i turn on my desk lap (: there's this warm glow which isn't too strong, quite romantic ah just that i'm sitting alone facing the laptop hahaha (loser). speaking of which the valentine's day atmosphere here is something i've never experienced in my life!!! they've so many cute and tastefully done things.
i spent a grand total of US$113 on the room (not including the furniture so you can imagine what exactly i bought... hmm i don't know!!), and i had a hard time choosing the items cos they were all so pretty ): ): ): it was either pink polka or zebra printed sheets for me. in the end i chose the polka dots. sigh, really spoilt for choice here... sian. i won't ever scrimp and save on my room because it's all about comfort, just like shoes. really need to watch the spending... especially when everything looks so chio and unlike the gross cheena stuff you'd get in singapore. even the most unbranded thing like cosmetic pouches are done up so prettily!!! *tears*
this is amount of processed food we bought for dinner/lunches to come. it's hard to live eating out, especially when each meal makes you feel like you'll die of a heart attack on the spot. haha. i've spent a ton on food thus far, and the price of asian groceries here are INSANEEEE. yeah i know i can always cook ang moh food right? NO. i like asian food better [: especially when i don't eat it so frequently in singapore.
cute!!!!! hand sanitizers are like all over the place here. the one on the left can be attached to your bag and its PUNY! smaller than my baby finger :D
